NWP – Year-End Update & Thank You! – December 30, 2017
In case you’re not checking email during the holiday, I’m posting a year-end update below–the email that just went out to NWP members.
Thank you ALL for being here and for making the Creative Resistance a reality!!
——————————————————————————————————————————————–
Nasty Woman Press. An idea born of hope against despair, fight in the face of adversity, and determination in a struggle most of us did not see coming.
When I founded NWP on November 9th, 2016, I did not expect, a little over a year later, to be speaking on behalf of a 14-seat Board of Directors; I did not fully anticipate the magnitude of the undertaking.
I only knew that NWP was an important idea … a harnessing of fear and anger and anxiety that would transmute those negatives through the alchemy of creativity to produce courage and commitment, resistance and righteousness. That the unity of each of us contributing SOMETHING would create, in turn, an essence of good.
And now, thanks to all of you, Nasty Woman Press is poised to fulfill its mission and its purpose in 2018: publishing its first anthology.
So what have we done this year? Build. Build now and for the future, a future that will always need creative people to take a stand. We:
* Formed a 501 (c)(4) non-profit organization
* Registered with the IRS
* Filled key committees with chairs and non-profits
* Developed operating principles and by-laws
* Assigned officers and the Board of Directors
* Constructed operating procedures and rules for both the administration and publishing arms of the organization
* Developed a logo
* Created a website
* Published an initial Call for Submissions
* Utilized Mobilize as an online platform for collaboration
* Recruited writers for the initial anthology
* Recruited an editor for the initial anthology
YOU made all this–and more–possible. Each of you. You and your amazing, generous donations of time, work and money.
We have much to do in the New Year: budget finalization, fundraising, publishing calendar, anthology assembly. But your donations–every single one–are what enable us to say, on the brink of a new year, that 2018 will be THE YEAR of the Creative Resistance.
THANK YOU. I hope you all have a New Year filled with peace, health and rejuvenation. And as we look ahead to next year, we can take strength In the words of President John F. Kennedy:
“The highest duty of the writer is to remain true to himself and let the chips fall where they may. In serving his vision of the truth the artist best serves his nation.”
Happy New Year!
